Everybody Loves a Series

Well, instead of getting on the forward moving train, I decided to hop on an airplane that has bypassed all of the stops in between and taken me directly to a new destination. What I mean by this is, that instead of getting on finishing book 1 (those two months are ticking fast), I have started to process ideas for books 2 & 3. And even started writing a scene for book 2. Book 1 remains utterly untouched since Monday. (Though I do have a tentative title and a cover page, which will be revealed later this week.)

Alas -- this is a good thing. I have always imagined this book to be a part of a three book series. And why is that you ask? Well, because all of my favorite books just so happen to belong to series. The Hunger Games, Twilight, Harry Potter, Hush Hush, The Mortal Instruments -- you get the picture. And it seems like these days no one is simply writing a one hit wonder. It is about longevity, dividing your eggs into multiple baskets. Can you imagine what would have become of Harry Potter had she scrapped books 2-7? It either would have been a childishly silly book, or it would have been terribly confusing because she tried to cover too much in one blanket. And Bella never would have had Renesmee, heaven forbid this should have failed to happen!

Though this is pertinent to note -- more can become less if the series continues far beyond where it should have rested in peace -- The Vampire Diaries for example, ghastly (Lil' Sis, you know exactly what I am talking about).

Anyway, as the series pertains to me and my writing -- I have felt kind of stuck for a while, because I didn't know where to end. How far are the characters going to come in this story? Well, now I know, because I have discovered exactly where they are going to start in book 2.

Exciting stuff. My mind is whirring with all of the possibilities!

For all those devoted fans -- waiting with bated breath and whispering humbleness -- on Friday I will be posting an excerpt and a cover page!
