'Superman: The Motion Picture Anthology' Coming to Blu-Ray!

Of course, all of these Superman goodies have been available on DVD before, but now there all here on Blu-Ray, in one huge eight-disc box set. (Check out the trailer above.) The set includes Richard Donner's Superman (1978), in both the theatrical cut and the extended cut; Richard Lester's theatrical cut of Superman II (1981), as well as Donner's cut; Lester's Superman III (1983), starring Richard Pryor(!); Sidney J. Furie's much-detested Superman IV: The Quest for Peace (1987); and Bryan Singer's gorgeous but dull Superman Returns (2006).

This set also has the most luscious extras, beginning with all seventeen of the Fleischer Brothers/Famous Studios Superman cartoons of 1941 through 1943. These are still my favorite filmic incarnations of the Man of Steel. We also get Superman and the Mole Men (1951), the TV special 'The Making of Superman' (1978), several Warner Brothers cartoons, commentary tracks, featurettes, and tons of other stuff, totaling something like 20 hours (not counting the movies).

Warner Home Video will release the Blu-Ray box on June 7. Suggested retail is $129.95.
