On the night of Skye's seventeenth birthday, she meets two enigmatic strangers. Complete opposites;like fire and ice; Asher is dark and wild, while Devin is fair and aloof. Their sudden appearance sends Skye's life into a tailspin. She has no idea what they want, or why they seem to follow her every move only that their presence coincides with a flurry of strange events. Soon she begins to doubt not just the identity of the two boys, but also the truth about her own past.In the dead of a bitingly cold Colorado winter, Skye finds herself coming to terms with the impossible secret that threatens to shatter her world. Torn between Asher, who she can't help falling for, and Devin, who she can't stay away from, the consequences of Skye's choice will reach further than the three of them could ever imagine. (Goodreads summary)
There are two types of swoon worthy boys I love to read about. 1. Snarky, rebellious, and devastatingly handsome. 2. Silent, strong, and devastatingly handsome. So, you would think that a book that has them both would pretty much blow me away. Well...it didn't set a grenade off in my mind, but it did keep me interested.
I was drawn to these two mysterious boys, Asher (1) and Devin (2). And their enigma held my interest. However, Skye herself didn't thrill me. She wasn't annoying but wasn't fascinating either. I found that her voice more often than not just kind of bored me. The story she was telling was not boring, which was reason enough to keep reading. It had some intriguing elements. The pacing was quick, chopped up by short chapters. At times it helped propel the story, but others I would have liked to see it slow down a little bit. Maybe to give time for the different elements to sink in.
As it neared the end, I finally found myself more connected to Skye and really falling for both Asher and Devin. I wish the beginning had been more gripping, but in the end, it was worth reading. Come on--two swoon worthy boys? I had to find out what their dealio was.
And it certainly left me eager for book #2.
