No wonder Chantelle Houghton has been tearful - she ditched love-rat footie star Jermain Defoe just a fortnight before Big Brother... after discovering he was cheating on her.

The blonde babe, 27, had secretly rekindled her romance with the England and Spurs star, only to have her heart broken.

Now she has vowed never to date a footballer again.

A pal said: "Chantelle's second relationship with Jermain was short-lived but she was left in pieces.

"On top of that, she's also having to live with her ex-husband Preston in the BB house." Chantelle and Defoe, both 27, first got together in November 2008 but split six months later over her fears he might cheat on her.

Then he texted her during this year's World Cup and she agreed to see him when he got back.

They enjoyed a string of dates but a friend told her Defoe had been seeing his on/off girlfriend Roxy Townsend, 22, as he texted her from South Africa. They even went on a post-World Cup holiday.

Now his desperate mum Sandra is seriously considering an offer to go on telly to find him a permanent substitute. An insider told us: "His mum's been asked to take part in this Blind Date style show and is keen to do it. I think she's just fed up with him playing the field."

Roxy dumped Defoe, 27, after he took his mum and other family along on the holiday. A pal said: "She'd had enough of him after he practically ignored her for the whole trip. She flew back on Wednesday and has already moved her stuff out of his house.

"The final straw came when Sandra said she'd had a text from a company proposing this dating show and seemed keen to do it."

Last night a family spokesman confirmed they were in talks with the BBC about a project.
