Large Blizzard with Peanut Butter Cups

On Monday, there was rumor that Chicago would get hit with one of the top five snow storms they have ever had. I kind of just shrugged and figured, okay, perhaps an overreaction. But at 2 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon, the storm hit. And it hit hard. I was sent home early from work and eagerly awaited the text that would say that I would get a snow day. And as the snow continued to fall heavy on the ground, the text arrived with the good news.

I woke up this morning to a world blanketed in white. Well, at least I assumed it was. The snow kind of drifted in through my leaky storm windows making it a tad difficult to see out of them. Nonetheless, I spent the morning and early afternoon curled up on my couch under a large fleece blanket, drinking coffee and watching season 1 Gossip Girl.

But come noon, I couldn't sit there anymore. I began to feel trapped and the walls started closing in on me. I had to get out. So I packed up my bags and braved the great outdoors.

Chicago is incredible in the snow. The snow maybe stopped falling about one hour ago and already the streets are cleared and a majority of the sidewalks have been shoveled. Back home in Tulsa, they also received a large amount of snow (yesterday), and I bet their roads are still covered.

I made my way to starbucks, because not even a blizzard can stop me from getting my snow day latte. The walk here, though not treacherous, made me mentally process things that I am thankful for.

I am thankful for...

I am thankful for snow days. Let's start there.  A special unexpected day off. A day where you should be working, but couldn't because the weather was too bad. A day where you are told not to come in. A blessing amidst the storm.

I am thankful for my warm apartment. I am thankful that it is located right next to the el. Located in a place where I never have to worry about shoveling. Someone, I don't know who, does it for me. And I am thankful for them.

I am thankful for my north face boots that I rarely wear but keep my feet oh so warm and dry.

I am thankful for technology. For the endless amounts of snow day activities.

I am thankful for the sun that is now shining.

I am thankful that tomorrow when I head back to work, it will be Thursday. And only two more days will lie between me and the beautiful weekend.

And I am thankful to the sky for sending a blizzard with extra peanut butter cups.
