Combustible Celluloid: The Weekly Newsletter of the Online Film Magazine - May 4, 2012

There's only one thing going on today: The Avengers. And it's as good as a summer blockbuster gets, though I'm still pondering some of its more curious elements. Aside from that, the San Francisco International Film Festival has officially wrapped up. I saw some good things and some mediocre things, and I missed a few other things I wanted to see. Now I'm mostly focused on getting ready for my first trip to Cannes in a couple of weeks, where I'll be staying for only two nights. I think it's going to be amazing and overwhelming, and I'm hoping that my head doesn't simply spontaneously combust. In one more piece of bizarre and fascinating news, Troma Entertainment has released twenty of their catalog titles, like The Toxic Avenger, for free on YouTube. That's it. You just go to YouTube and start watching. Amazing. Finally, in non-movie news, my son Alex turns 6 this week, which seems like the most amazing thing of all.
