Birthday Recap

Have I mentioned that I had an awesome birthday? Not only did my friends and family help me celebrate all weekend long, but they got me some very thoughtful gifts too.

Saturday was the Halloween party with my girls, and they gave me such a great present. My sister works at a little gift boutique here in town, and I'm in there at least once weekly to check out the goods. I have been wanting this sweet little cake stand for months, couldn't bring myself to buy it. Whit messaged her for ideas, Trisha immediately went to this cake stand, and the girls pitched in and bought it for me. So sweet!!

I believe they got me the medium one. Won't this be adorable with some cookies or a cake on it? Loved it!

We always go eat for each family member's birthday. Since mine is on Halloween, we always go the day before, after, or whenever we can get together (due to trick or treaters). I chose Cracker Barrel since it was close to town, and I don't go there weekly (even though I had just been Friday). I love CB and could probably eat there every day. So good.

On Monday, after work, the fam (parents, sister, and brother-in-law) came over for pizza, cake, and to hand out candy. We've been doing this for years, and I love it. They surprised me with some pretty awesome gifts too. See if you can find the theme this year.

I feel so lucky to have these girls and this family to celebrate with me! I hope this year brings lots of new and exciting things! :) Here's to another year older!

The problems with a holiday birthday....

....is that everyone forgets.

Yes, it does have it's pros.... extra par in the partay! There is always a party, people dress up, and it's just a FUN time!

However, most people get so excited about Halloween that they forget its MY birthday. I realize that this makes me sound a little self absorbed, but birthdays are seriously the most special day of the year. The day is all about the birthday girl or guy! I totally believe that.

But....my family is all about the trick or treaters. I've never really celebrated my birthday with them on my actual birthday because heaven forbid we miss some kids dressed up as a princess. (Yes, this makes me feel like I don't matter.)

This year is no different. My parents live in a subdivision now and they decided they were going to stay at home and pass out candy (instead of come to my house for food, cake, hand out candy, etc like they have for the past few years.) I seriously broke down last night. I cried and kept thinking how pathetic it was that I was going to have to spend my birthday all alone, to spend Halloween all alone.

A few hours later, Mom calls and says they are coming over. I msg my sister and she said they were coming over anyway. So now, all is well. I'll be with my family. I'll be with others on my birthday.

Yep, I dodged that bullit.

Twenty + Five

So today is kind of a big day.

Need a hint? Well, I am prancing around with an imaginary crown on my head and a magic wand. Either I am a fairy princess or it is my birthday.

If you guessed fairy princess then we obviously don't know each other. Because my birthday is pretty much my favorite thing ever.

And this isn't just any old birthday. This is 2-5!!

I always imagined what my life would look like when I turned 25. It involved a simple life in some boring suburban town. My ordinary husband would work in finance or realty, and I would be a soon to be stay at home mom. We would be church goers, spend our evenings watching all of our favorite programs, and I would probably cook a lot of meals in the crock pot.

This was the life I imagined. Of course, I imagined it to be perfect instead of boring. The boring is merely my defense mechanism, because clearly this is so not my life.

No husband. No suburban home. And yes, I do change diapers for a living, but for someone else's baby.

I did not achieve my plan. In fact, my real life at 25 looks very different.

More than the minute details, I imagined I would have it all figured out. I thought--foolishly--that 25 was old enough to have it all figured out. A life where goals had been achieved rather then one where goals and dreams have yet to even been thought of.

So, today I am 25. My life is nowhere near what I thought it would be and yet, it is my life. My happy, random life.

I live in a tiny apartment, my boss is 2, I read and write books about teenagers, I am still on my parents' insurance, I hate doing dishes, I get nervous talking to strangers, I occasionally buy shoes from the kids section...

And every morning I wakeup with a new dream.

This is me. This is my life.


At 25, my life has only just begun.

25th Birthday Weekend!

Hey blog loves...I guess I should fill you all in on my 25th Birthday weekend...I did survive, and have dealt with the fact that I am halfway to 50! Everything started last Monday when my sweetheart sent me a gorgeous bouquet of roses to enjoy all week at my office. 

My good friend Julianne also celebrated 25 early in the week on Tuesday so our best friend Kyndall threw us a surprise birthday party at one of our favorite restaurants and invited other friends, it was such a good time and Kyn really put a lot of thought into everything...our cake was amazing. Julianne and I are going to NYC together in December, so this is what she made had for us!  

 

 It was perfect!! I got some great goodies from the girls! Friday was my actual Birthday and I woke up to gifts from Mom and Dad, then had to start a busy, busy day! I had to knock out a little community service (court ordered...for speeding...I'm not a real criminal)...then pack up and head north to Fayetteville for my Birthday weekend, and to see Nate weigh in for his fishing tournament. My friend Darrah, and her baby Lynlee went up with me because her b/f and Nate fish together so we decided to make a girls weekend out of it! We did some shopping on the way up, then finally got to our room. We got ready for dinner and met the boys at Outback...not my pick, but what do you do, huh...it was only my Birthday!? Lol!! Dinner was good, Nate got me the new Canon camera I'd been wanting, and I was very excited...when I opened it up his friend Tim took it from me and started just taking pictures, I, like I normally do layed my hand on Nate's leg...only to feel something strange in his pocket...it wasn't change...it wasn't keys...about the time he realized that I had figured out what was about to happen he started scooting down the seat (while I was trying to pull him back...lol)..he got down on his knee (yes in the Outback Steakhouse...lol)...and asked me to spend my life with him...

I was sooo very surprised, which is very hard to do! Everything finally sank in yesterday, and I am so, so excited! I honestly can't wait to spend my life with him! I can't wait to start planning a wedding!! I hope y'all are having a great week!! I can't wait to start sharing real wedding planning with you guys!!
