Huge Letdown Part Two

Remember that time I met my favorite UK player, Mr. Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, and he was less than friendly about meeting his favorite fan? Well, it happened again folks. Except this time, I met the projected #1 NBA draft pick, Anthony "The Brow" Davis.

I watched him do amazing things all season long, and I always thought he would be super cool. Did you all see him on Kimmel? Hilarious. Friendly.

So it was all over the news that he was going to be in Bowling Green last night. It was my sister's birthday, so I wasn't sure if I would have time to make it after her birthday dinner. After we ate, I decided (super last minute) that I would race to BG and meet this heifer.

The time slot for him to be at Kroger was from 5:00-7:30. We pulled into the parking lot at 7:10. We got in line (which was unorganized as all get out), paid $25 to get our picture taken (an autograph was an extra $55. No thanks.), and walked on up. This is where it gets hairy.

I looked around for my friend, Meg, but she was no where to be found. There was a cop, a younger kid standing there, and a group of onlookers standing there, but no friend. Suddenly, one of Davis's sidekicks hatefully remarks, "Can someone just take her picture?" I give MY camera (they don't even take the picture for you....), scoot back against the table that Davis is sitting behind, and smile. He doesn't stand up. Doesn't say hello. Doesn't put his freakishly long arm around me for a photo op. He just sits there.  At least MKG put his damn arm around me.

Maybe it's just me, but I have a few thoughts on this. 1. You are on a promotional tour to meet fans. At least act like you want to be there.  2. A hello or a thank you for coming out afterwards would be considerate. Ya know, since these people are your fans! 3. We had to PAY money to meet you. Make it worth our time coming out and giving you money. Be kind.

At least it was a good picture.

The Man of My Dreams Turns Out to Be a Frog

You all know how much I love my UK Wildcats. I L-O-V-E love them. So when I heard that my absolute favorite Wildcat would be in the B.G., I knew I just had to see him. I'm sure you've heard about him- Michael Kidd-Gilchrist that is. He was a freshman this year, offered to give up  his starting position so that a senior could start, predicted to be #2 in the draft pick...you know...sounds like a good guy. Did I mention that I have a huge crush on this fella? So yes, I was going to see him if I had to follow him back to Lexington! (Kidding here...slightly).

MKG was scheduled to be at the classy joint of Kroger (yes, the grocery) from 4-6. I just so happened to be at a jewelry party at that exact time, so something was going to have to happen. I talked about it enough that everyone at the party got the hint, and we were out the door by 5:40. I sped across town, cussed a few slow drivers, did a little weaving in and out of traffic, and raced into the parking lot. We got to the door and there he was- with NO line! Holla! I walked up, gave a worker my credit card since nothing...not even a picture... is free, and waltzed on up to Mr. Kidd-Gil. I put my arm around his waist, pulled him in, and smiled for the camera.

Of course I did what any girl would do; I checked it to make sure it was fb appropriate. And if I'm paying money to get this done, I want it to be legit. It wasn't. So I pulled MKG back to my side, smiled, and got a decent shot.

While waiting for my friends to pay, I tried making small talk with my knight in shining armor blue. He was having none of it. He didn't say hello when I walked up. He didn't say thanks for coming by and paying to see me. Nothing. My dreams of marrying and having his children were crushed. (Again, slightly kidding here.) Should I have gushed about how he is my favorite wildcat and love him to pieces? I thought that might be a little crazy white girl for him, so I didn't. But nothing? :( It was sad times, girls, sad times.

I may pretend that ole MKG wasn't like that so I can still be a fan of his. I mean I do have a picture with him (that will be printed and framed), and his signature on my championship tee and poster. I didn't rush all the way across town for nothing, right? What do you think?

I'm Switzerland

I've been a Kentucky Wildcats fan for as long as I can remember. When I was in middle school, I would sit in the den downstairs and watch the Cats play all by myself. Seriously though, what teenage girl does this? To this day, I'm a die-hard fan.

However, Western Kentucky University was a mere 30 minutes from my house. We had a campus in my hometown. So that was the logical choice for me to go to school there. After 6 years of paying tuition, attending classes, and going to the games to root for the Hilltoppers, I feel a sense of loyalty to that place.

And tonight is the first game for the Cats in the NCAA tournament. And guess who we play? Yep. The WKU Tops. How do I choose? Can I root for both? I think I'll just be Switzerland. Neutral. Go Cat Tops!

Weekly Shopping Road Trip

Remember my post from last week about my shopping trip? Well, it would probably suffice to say that this Saturday was pretty much the same.

My shopping partner, Megan, met me at my house at 8. The car was full of gas, we stopped at Mickey Dees to get some yummy, greasy breakfast and hit the road. I did try the new Peppermint Mocha, and was not a fan. Anywho- we drove the 2 hours to get to my favorite Kentucky city, Lexington. We passed the time by doing what else...talking and singing, of course.

A few hours later, we arrived at Commonwealth Stadium for the noon football game. We knew that this was supposed to be a pretty boring game; it was against Jacksonville State, the Cats have not had a good season, and the tickets were free. BUT, any excuse to go to Lex-Vegas, we are there. We got to park pretty much by the entrance to the field and had plenty of room in our seats. That empty! However, the weather was absolutely perfect.

Notice the empty stands....yeah....we couldn't give away our extra tickets.
We left at the end of the first half...I mean, shopping was on the agenda, and Meg and I were twiddling our thumbs in anxiousness for what was ahead. We ran to the bookstore so I could get a UK sweatshirt blanket. I had found one at Target on clearance for $25, and passed it up. I went back to get it and lo and behold, it was gone. Grrr. So after stewing on it for a few days, I decided to get one, even if it was original price. I also found a sweatshirt for $15 bucks, so I scooped it up.

Sweatshirt blanket $36

I got a dark gray. $14.95
We passed Kennedy Book Store on the way back to the mall, so we stopped there also. I picked up a decal, and an antenna pom. I saw this shirt and desperately wanted it, but wasn't sure how appropriate it would be for my small town. I mean the word "ass" on a shirt is just not a classy thing. But I loved it.

Love it!

We made our way to Target (because  you know, every one is different). Then across the street to the mall. The first store we stopped at was, of course, a Kentucky store. So, I picked up a UK long sleeve tee; I absolutely LOVE long sleeve tees. Perfect for fall!

Except mine's not Nike. $9.99
We decided after our 4th Kentucky store, that we were not allowed to look at anything UK. You would think we were brand new students trying to scoop up everything UK. Ah well...our purchases will definitely be used.

We ran into Penney's so I could get some shirts to wear under sweaters and such, and of course, we had to detour through the shoes. Some boots, that I had tried on previously, were only $40 bucks, they fit, so I got them. They aren't the brand I wanted, and they aren't real leather, but for 40 bucks, I got them. (The ones I want cannot be found anywhere! I've looked for 2 weeks!)

JCPenneys. $39.99
After some more shopping along Nicholasville Rd., we headed to get some food. We passed by The Melting Pot, and since I had never been, we stopped. Oh my, was it good. That chocolate was to die for. I think if the bartender had left the bar, I would have licked the pot. That good.
Cheddar Cheese fondue, apples, and bread.

After that, we headed home. I'm not sure how we made it without falling asleep. 13+ hours of nothing but running around is a long day! Nevertheless, Meg and I had a good ole time. Btw- Whit....you  missed out, girl.We had an awesome, though exhausting, time. I'm anxious to see what next weekend holds!
