Designer Susan Sokol to receive Spirit of Life Award

Fashion industry leader and philanthropist Susan Sokol will receive The Spirit of Life Award at City of Hope's Spring Luncheon on Monday, May 14, at The Plaza Hotel. City of Hope's East End Chapter/Jeanne Kaye League will present the fashion industry leader with its top philanthropic honor in recognition of her professional achievements, charitable contributions and personal commitment to the fight against women's cancers. 

"My personal experience of fighting and surviving breast cancer could not have happened without the extraordinary advances in scientific research and medical treatment at institutions like City of Hope," said Sokol. "I am honored to be recognized by an organization that embodies hope and provides compassionate care to patients and their families."

Sokol is widely considered one of the fashion industry's most distinguished and highly-regarded senior executives. The current president and chief operating officer of J. Mendel, Sokol has served in executive positions for high-profile brands Vera Wang, Michael Kors, Pegasus Apparel Group/Leiber Group, Donna Karan International and Calvin Klein Inc. She has repeatedly taken companies to their next level of success. 

Throughout her extraordinary career in the apparel and clothing accessory industry, Sokol has demonstrated compassion and support for a number of local and national charities. She is a dedicated advocate for women's health and research into women's cancers.

"We're proud to recognize Susan for her business leadership and commitment to raising awareness for women's cancers," said Lisa Kaye Fuld, co-president, East End Chapter/Jeanne Kaye League. "Her personal story provides hope and inspiration to women who are fighting cancer around the world."

Scientists with City of Hope's Women's Cancers Program are investigating the biology of breast, ovarian and endometrial cancers as well as interventions that could reduce cancer risk for all women. Researchers are identifying new treatments and prevention methods. They are also examining issues that affect women with cancer and their families, such as spirituality, the emotional impact of cancer on caregivers, and other quality-of-life issues.

Weekend Wrap-Up

Good Monday morning, ladies! I hope each and every one of you had a fabulous weekend; I sure did! I haven't done a wrap-up in awhile, so let me catch you up...

• I ordered this super cute shirt last weekend to celebrate what we thought would  be an awesome SEC tournament won by my Cats. Since it was the first day of play for Kentucky, I sported this on Friday.

• After work, I headed to BG to get in my weekly catch up sesh with my bff, Meg.
• We had the best drinks and apps at O'Charleys.
• A little trip to Target (of course), and I left with these super hot shoes. When will I ever them? Who knows. Did I mention the fact that I rarely wear heels? Oh, who cares? They are so cute, and only $20 so I had to get them, right?

• We ran to a few more places and then back to her house so she could get back to her sweet kiddos.

• Saturday, my Mom called and said she was keeping the sweetest little boy that day, so I headed over to see him and watch the Cats play in the third round of the tourney.

• I came home later, and ended up sleeping a few hours that afternoon. Oops.
• The Cats played again Sunday morning, so my other bff came over to watch. As I'm sure you've heard, the Cats played like shiznit all three days, and they ended up losing in the final. As much as I love the Cats and was absolutely pissed that they lost, they just didn't show up in Nawlins like they should have. Grrrr.
• To drown our sorrows, Whit and I headed to BG to do a little shopping and eating.
• I wanted to hit up Kohls since I didn't on Friday. Fortunately (for my sanity) and unfortunately (for my wallet), I found some cute things to purchase.

Striped, hooded cardi. Love this. This one is gray and white.

And this one is navy and gray. Of course I had to get both.

And since I'm going to be an aunt in June, I grab up everything I can that says something about "aunt" on them.

• Ran around town a little more until we decided to hit up the mall.
• I found these cuh-ute shoes at Payless. I had wanted them a few weeks ago, but held off. Glad I did because they were half off! Holla!



These are the prettiest smoky navy blue.

• Then I found this dress at Old Navy. I got some denim capris too, for only $12 bucks.



This is a tan and white stripe. Apparently I'm on a stripe kick today. I have a feeling I will wear this lots this summer.

• We finally deaded to get some grub at Buffalo Wild Wings. I love that place!
• As usual, we jammed out to some rap on the way home. You all have got to see my playlist. Totally not what you would expect from this girl, but we were hoppin. Maybe I'll share that tomorrow!
